Carried By Waves – Biography
CARRIED BY WAVES is an Irish based, audio/visual project and the product of a life long obsession with an eclectic range of musical influences. The music itself is a collage of layered, ethereal guitars, synths and vocals, fused with complex drum rhythms, and hynotic catchy bass loops. The sound of CARRIED BY WAVES has been described by critics as sublime, beautifully, crafted, euphoric, lush, astral, dreamy, textured, layered, engrossing, uplifting, gorgeous, organic-electronic pop music”.
Last year was a busy one for CARRIED BY WAVES, and one marked by considerable progress. A debut show in January 2011 was closely followed by a performance as part of Ireland’s ‘First Music Contact’ tour, and in August he was among the acts chosen to play at the ‘Hard Working Class Heroes’ festival in Dublin (2011 & 2012). This run of shows was topped off in September of the same year by a slot at the internationally acclaimed music festival ‘The Electric Picnic’ in Co. Laois.
These performances gained critical acclaim with the likes of leading Irish magazine ‘Hot Press’, as well as various online blogs such as ‘Entertainment.ie’, ‘Drop-D’, and ‘We Are Noise’ among others, and led to an artist profile segment on prominent Dublin radio station ‘Phantom FM’. In addition, various Carried By Waves tracks received regular national airplay on Dan Hegarty’s ‘2FM’ show ‘The Alternative’. The year was rounded off by a live recording session at 2FM for the same show.
2012 began with both ‘Hot Press’ and ‘Heinekenmusic.ie’ tipping ‘Carried By Waves’ as “one to watch” , and in July 2012 a debut album entitled ‘Softly Held Together’ was featured as Dan Hegarty’s “album of the week” on 2FM. In addition to the latter radio exposure songs from the album have also been featured on the Jenny Hustonshow (2FM) and I-Con (Phantom Fm). This acclaim was bolstered by a string of successful nationwide shows, performing with various high profile Irish acts (e.g. R.S.A.G, Le Galaxie, Squarehead, Funeral Suits, Gretta Gunn, & Sleep Thieves among others), as well as a headline slot at the ‘Indiependence’ festival in Mitchelstown, Ireland for the ‘Love Music, Hate Racism’ stage . Following the release of 3 E.Ps last year and a handful of remix projects (see YouTube link),”Softly Held Together” was released (for free download) in July 2012.
Most recently a ‘Music licensing’ deal was signed with New York company
MuseIQ, and the track ‘Parting Speech’ taken from the album was released by Vienna based
record label ‘AudioKult’ as part of a label showcase compilation.
In addition’Carried By Waves’ was also handpicked by internet music giants Soundcloud as their ‘Soundclouder Of The Day’ (November 15th 2012).
